La Luz del Santo!!

Esta ilustración originalmente la habia comenzado a hacer para el evento de "El santo es mi devoción", pero debido a cuestiones de tiempo y planeación, en el proceso decidí hacerla un poster para las series de mi pagina http://www.danielteran.com/ . Asi que proximamente, éste y otros posters estarán a la venta en su edición limitada tamaño graaande.
"La luz del Santo" es el título de esta obra y la técnica que usé fue tinta china en todos los trazos y colorido en Psd. Hice muuucho bocetaje para llegar a este resultado, y mucho diseño para la escena y composición. Me divertí muchisimo haciendo esta obra y a diferencia de mis otros trabajos, este como era libre, tuve mas tiempo para planearla y editar mejor el colorido, las luces y sombras, asi como la composición. Ya hacia rato que no me daba el lujo de hacer una ilustración que me tomara varios dias. Es lo mejor, poder, revisar la obra y bocetar y bocetar nuevamente, claro, cuando le puedes dedicar el tiempo que tu quieras, aunque tambien es bueno el reto diario contra reloj.

I did this illustration originally, in the beginnin for for the event of " Santo is my devotion" , but due to questions of time and planning, in the process I decided to make it poster for the series of my homepage: http://www.danielteran.com/ . So soon, this one and others posters will be on sale in their limited edition, full size. " The light of the Santo" it is the title of this work and the technique that I used was Chinese ink in all the outlines and colorful in Psd. I made a lot of sketching to finally get this result, and much design for the scene and composition. I had a lot of fun making this poster becouse, unlike my other works, this was more free and personal, and I had more time to plan better the colours, the lights and shades, as well as the composition. It had been a while since i didnt make an illustration that took me several days. I think that is the best thing, to be able, to review the work and to sketch and re sketch again, of course, when you have the time to do it.

Bipolaridad! / Bipolarity!

Esta es una ilustración que salió publicada hoy en la revista "Vida Saludable". La nota habla sobre las personas que son bipolares, asi que decidimos hacer una especie de doble cara o cuadro cambiante, jugar con la idea de los repentinos cambios extremos de ánimo y expresarlos a traves de los gestos. Hace mucho que no trabajaba con los prismacolor y este caso creo que se prestó bien para emplearlos ya que tanto el trazo y tipo de colorido creo que ayudaron a transmitir la distorción e intensidad propias de la bipolaridad.

The note speaks of the people who are bipolar, so we decided to make a species of double slide or changing face, to play with the idea of the sudden extreme changes of spirit and to express them through the gestures. Its veen a long time since a haven´t work with the prismacolor, and this case I believe that it was lent well to use them becouse of the particular outline and type of colorful, I believe that they helped to transmit the own distortion and intensity of the bipolarity.

Estos son unos personajes que hice para una ilustración de salud y problemas de la tiroides, salió publicada la semana pasada en el periódico Noroeste. Nuevamente la asignación tenía que ser en blanco y negro, el diseñador me propuso la idea de la balanza y me parecio atractiva, empleando los personajes extremos gordo y el flaco quise darle un toque humorístico a los personajes para ayudar a quebrar la monotonía y sacarlo de la convencionalidad con la que se acostumbra manejar este tipo de temas. Eh visto muy buenos blogs y trabajos geniales de colegas de aqui de Mexico y de otras partes del mundo. espero seguir conociendo nuevos talentos y compartirles mi trabajo. gracias por pasar! Saludos! Again the commissioned art had to be in black and white, the designer offered the idea of the weighing machine and i thought it was good, employing the extreme characters the fat and the skinny one I wanted to give a humoristic touch to them to help to break the monotony and conventionality that this type of subjects usually get handle. I've been seeing a lot good blogs and brilliant works from colleagues here in Mexico and other parts of the world. I hope to continue meeting new talents and sharing my work. Thanks for dropping by! Corriendo por dinero/ Running for money

Esta pequeña ilustración salió publicada hace un par de semanas, la hice para un articulo que habla acerca del poco apoyo económico que se le da al deporte aquí en Mazatlán a pesar del buen nivel e interes que los atletas muestran. La idea era poner al personaje tratando de alcanzar la meta para lograr obtener las monedas, o dinero, y las manos que lo detienen representan esa falta de apoyo que les impide llegar a su meta. Traté de darle mucho movimiento a la composición y dinamismo a la escena para ayudar a comunicar mejor la desesperación y frustración que sienten estos atletas ante la falta de apoyo.

This small illustration went published a couple of weeks a go, I did it for a sports article that speaks about the little economic support that the athletes have here in Mazatlán in spite of the good level they have and interest that they show in some sports. The idea was to put the athlete character tryin to reach the goal to obtain the coins, or money, and the hands that are sopping him represent that lack of support that prevents them to achieve that goal. I triyed to make a dynamic composition and add some movment to the scene, so it can helps to comunicate the desperation and frustration that these athletes have becouse of the lack of suport.

Duendes Verdes!

Esta estas son unas ilustraciones navideñas que salieron publicadas ayer en suplementos del periodico Noroeste (Sinaloa). Fue un poco duro esta vez por que tuve muy poco tiempo para realizar el trabajo, y si estaba un poco ambicioso el esquema, ademas de que eran las paginas centrales e ilustración para portada también. Pero la idea que me propuso el diseñador me llamó mucho la atención, sobre todo el tono de humor y el buen empleo del recurso ilustrativo para resolver el trabajo. Quise trabajar esta asignación con este estilo en vectores y recurriendo a las plastas de colores planos, hacer algo muy colorido desde el principio. El reportaje habla sobre puntos turisticos y sitios de interes donde pasar la navidad en la localidad y Santa, los renos y duendes planean visitar. Hice mucho bocetaje para el diseño de los personajes, pero me hubiera gustado tener mas tiempo para editar mejor el color, pero bueno, creo que dio buen resultado.

Green Elfs!

This these are some Christmas illustrations that went published yesterday by Noroeste Newspaper. This time it was a little hard becouse I had very just a short time to carry out the work, and the orginal sketches were a little ambitious, includding the central pages and illustration for cover also. But the idea that to me the designer propose called so much my attention, mainly becouse of the tone of humor and the good use of the illustrative resource to solve the work. I wanted to work this illustration with this style in vectors and forms of flat colors, to make something (from the beginning) very colorful. The news article speaks of tourist points and sites of interest where to spend Christmas in the locality, and Santa, the reindeer and genies glide to visit. I made a lot of sketching for the characters desing, but I would have liked to have a little more time to work with the color, but I believe that the result was good.

Corredores!

Que tal camaradas!, aqui les comparto algo de mis mas recientes publicaciones editoriales. Hice esta ilustración para un reportaje especial a cerca de un Maratón anual de la localidad. En esta ocación el diseñador a cargo propuso abordar el tema desde la perspectiva del atleta, y para esto me solicitó el desarrollo de varios personajes corredores, los cuales ayudaran a ilustrar las distintas etapas físicas y psicológicas (eforia, sufrimiento, alegria etc) que pasa el atleta a lo largo de todo el Maratón. Este caso ademàs incluyo el diseño de un mapa del recorrido y cosas mas técnicas por lo que me tomó un poco mas de tiempo de lo usual. Los trazos estan hechos con pincél pentel y el colorido esta en Psd, a execpción del mapa, el cual lo trabajè en Ilustrator.

Runners!

Whats up folks, here i share with you some of my most recent editorial publications.
I made this illustration for a special newsweek article about an annual Marathon here in the locality (Mazatlán, Mex.). In this assignment the designer proposed an approach to the subject from the point of view of the athlete, so he asked me for the development to me of several running characters, who helped to illustrate the different physical and psychological stages (eforia, suffering, joy etc) that the athlete passes throughout all the Marathon. This case also include the design of a map of the route and technical things, so it toked me a little more time from the usual. The trace lines where made with pentel brush and colored in Psd, execpt the map, which i worked in Ilustrator.

Afores

Esta es una ilustración que salió publicada la semana pasada, la hice para la sección de negocios, la idea principal era comunicar la importancia de saber bien qué afore elegir al momento de ahorrar. Quise representar a las distintas afores con alcancias o "cochinitos" y toda la confusion y complejidad al momento de elegirlas a través de un laberinto. El personaje principal es una anciana, quién representa a los usuarios de dichas afores, tambien quise darle un look confundido para ayudar a expresar mejor la idea.
El estilo, una vez mas, fue prismacolor blanco sobre cartulina negra. Trabajada solo blanco y negro, como mis editores me lo asignaron.

This is an illustration that went published last week. I did, it for the section of businesses, the main idea was to communicate the importance of knowing well what insurance to choose at the time of saving money. I wanted to represent the different insurances with moneyboxes or " cochinitos" and all the confusion and complexity at the time of choosing them through a labyrinth. The main character is an old lady, who represents the users , also I wanted to give look confused to help him to express better the idea. The style, once again, was prismacolor target on black fine cardboard. Worked only black and white, as the editors assigned to me.

Trabajo editorial/ Editorial Work

Esta es una pequeña ilustración que salió publicada ayer, el artículo era muy largo y un poco tedioso, a grandes rasgos habla de la desconfianza o la poca credibilidad que se ah generado los ultimos años hacia el IFE (instituto federal electoral) aqui en Mexico . Decidí darle un toque mas humoristico a través de la creación de distintos personajes "ciudadanos mexicanos" con gestos que reflejáran esa duda e incertidumbre, todos ellos mirando el elemento de debate: la urna de votación, casi vacía. La tecnica fue prismacolor blanco sobre fondo negro, toda a blanco y negro como inicialmente me lo encargaron.

This is a small illustration that went published yesterday, the article was very long and a little tedious, in broad strokes speaks of the distrust or the little credibility that society generated the last years towards the IFE (electoral federal institute) here in Mexico. I decided to give it a humorous touch through the creation of different characters " mexican citizens" with gestures that helps reflect that doubt and uncertainty, all of them watching the debate element: the ballot box, almost empty. The technique was prismacolor target on black bottom, everything to black and white as to initially they ordered it me.

BIO AMORFO No.5

Esta es la Quinta obra de la Serie Bio Amorfo. Comenzé esta serie en Barcelona, cuando estube por ahi dibujando en algunos parques. Ahora la eh continuado aqui en Mazatlán Mexico y quien sabe donde termine jejeje.

El concepto de Bio Amorfo es precisamente alejarme de los personajes y representaciones típicas de figuras humanas, el punto es que el espectador NO reconsca personajes, o entes bien definidos. Pretendo todo lo contrario, abstracción, incoherencia y mezclas de formas viscerales de humanos y animales, fusiones, etc. El efecto que busca la serie es despertar curiosidad al espectador y llegar a establecer cierta Intimidad con su mirada, y que él mismo sea quien interpreta las formas y decide que cosas son. Me da gusto cuando la gente los ve en persona y me dice, oh eso es un pato, No! eso son unas tripas!, No es una nariz, es un diablo, etc....! Que es?

El proceso es simple pero lento, al principio los trazos fluyen sueltos, sin bocetos ni nada, espontáneos desde el inconciente. Pero eso si, una de las características principales es que todas las formas se busca que sean orgánicas (curveadas), nada recto y ni rígido. Una vez teniendo ese primer trazado "automatista" voy puliendo poco a poco las formas y dandole color con lápices pasteles, definiendo profundidades y dimensiones. Poco a poco se van revelando otras figuras, y las formas que en un principio parecian una cosa ahora se van transformando en otras a medida que se van puliendo. Esta es la parte que mas tiempo me toma y que mas disfruto, es como un vistazo a otra realidad para mi. Así, puedo estar en un parque al aire libre con gente caminando pero a la vez estar en otros lugares dentro del propio dibujo.

Otro factor curioso de estas obras es que se pueden rotar, y apreciar desde distintas posiciones, formato vertical u horizontal, voltearlo de cabeza y viceversa. Es muy divertido por que se revelan mas formas y mas figuras, entonces uno puede pasarse un buen tiempo distraerse y pasearse por la obra, y buscar cada vez que se mira nuevas cosas o transformar lo que antes se veía, un poco como pasa cuando miramos las nubes.

Espero poder seguir trabajando este agasajo de arte personal a la par de mis otros trabajos comerciales.

BIO AMORFO No.5

This is the fifth piece of my personal Series "Bio Amorfo". I started this series in Barcelona, drawing in some parks. Now I continued here in Mazatlán México and who knows where i will finished jejeje.
The concept of Bio Amorfo is indeed to move away of the characters and typical representations of human figures, the point is that the spectator dont be able to recognize defined characters, or beings. I try quite the opposite, abstraction, incoherence and mixtures of visceral forms of humans and animal, fusions, etc. The effect that i look for the series is to wake up the curiosity of the spectator and to get to establish certain Privacy with its glance, and that he himself is the one who interprets the forms and decides what they are.
It is pleasant to me when people see them in person and say oh that is a duck, No! that is an ear!, It is not a nose, is a devil, etc…. That it is?

The process is simple but slow, in the begining the trace flow loose, without sketch´s nor nothing, spontaneous from the subconcience. One of the basic characteristic is that all the forms have nothing straight and nor rigid looks for that they are organic. Once having that first one draw "improvised" I continue polishing the forms little by little and giving him to color with pastell pencils, defining depths and dimensions. Little by little they are revealed other figures, and the forms that at first looks like one thing now are transforming into others as they are polished. This is the part that takes more time to me and I enjoy the most, it is like a look to another reality for my. Thus, I can be in a park outdoors with people walking but simultaneously be in other places within the own drawing. Another peculiar factor of these works is that they are possible to be rotated, and to be appreciated from different positions, vertical or horizontal format, to be turned around it of head and vice versa. Is very funny so that forms and but figures are revealed but, then one can spend a good time to relax and to take a walk by the work, and to look for whenever it watches new things or to transform what before it was seen, as it happens when we watched clouds in the sky. I hope to be able to continue working this personal art and my other commercial works as well.
